We’re on a mission to deliver clean, affordable energy for the world.

About RedGrid

RedGrid is a technology company that helps households stop using fossil fuels by changing the way people use energy. Our app makes it simple for people to use energy when the grid is greenest, saving them money, and making them feel great for helping the planet.

Our story

RedGrid started in 2018 when Adam, Simon and Alex met through a mutual friend. They quickly found out they shared a similar frustration: Governments weren’t taking serious action and industries weren’t pivoting fast enough to adopt the technologies needed to solve the climate crisis.

With Adam’s background in carbon finance and running startups in the environmental space, Simon’s deep experience in fintech and blockchain, and Alex’s passion for marketing and crypto, it only took a few conversations for the ball to drop:

Imagine the opportunities that clean energy could bring for people all over the world if they could figure out how to use decentralised technology to deliver renewable energy to communities. And imagine if that energy was secure, stable, and scalable.”

Over many conversations, RedGrid was born. The first project? A partnership with minigrid operator SOLshare to build the tech to share energy value from a person with solar panels in Germany to someone in need of power in Bangladesh. The project was very successful, provided deep learning, and launched RedGrid into its next phase.

In late 2018, RedGrid was accepted into the Startupbootcamp Energy Accelerator, chosen from among 1000 global applicants to join 10 startups to take their mission to the next level. Fast forward to 2019, when RedGrid closed out their first capital raise becoming the most successful, fully subscribed energy crowdsourced funding campaign in Australia’s history.

Now in 2021, RedGrid is proud to count Mirvac, one of Australia’s leading sustainability property developers, and Monash University’s Net Zero Emissions Smart City among their clients. RedGrid is also extremely excited to be powering the Internet of Energy Network (IOEN), an interconnected system of mini grids that facilitate energy exchange between, and within, households and communities.

Our team

We’re a gutsy, determined, and thoughtful bunch who value collaboration, community, and cutting our own path.

Adam Bumpus, CEO

Adam has worked in climate technology and energy for nearly 20 years, helping organisations like the UN and the World Bank, as well as the private sector, improve clean energy investment and innovation.

Prior to co-founding RedGrid, Adam set up and ran a communications agency delivering international climate and energy development projects, and co-founded and led carbon analysis for the startup Greeenstar in the UK.

Adam holds a doctorate from Oxford University in carbon finance and has held visiting scholars positions at Stanford and UC Berkeley. He is a regular climate change contributor on Channel 10’s The Project in Australia, loves skiing and cold ocean swimming, and is a keenly terrible surfer.

Simon Wilson, CTO

Simon has over ten years of experience in FinTech working with leading Australian banks, domestically and globally. His roles have spanned many areas including leading NAB in their joint working group for Blockchain technology and strategy.

A passionate and active leader in the Blockchain community, he has hosted international workshops on Blockchain technology in Dubai, Malaysia, and India.

Simon holds an MIT ‘Future of Commerce’ as well as a Stanford University ‘Economics – Game Theory’ certifications.

He is also certified in discrete mathematics, computer science data structures, programming, and JavaScript.

Alex Evans, CMO

Alex is a marketing specialist with deep roots in distributed ledger technology (DLT). He has passionately worked to communicate the immense capabilities of DLT and help create a dialogue around how it can be used to unlock value.

Prior to leading marketing and branding for RedGrid, he collaborated with ConsenSys in New York to produce media content on DLT.

Alex has also actively consulted on branding and marketing strategies for businesses across several industries. He is a firm believer that growth in effective communication around DLT, IoT, and clean energy will be a key catalyst in transitioning to the third generation of the internet, and a sustainable future.
